Walker to Propose End of Local Government

Walker to Propose End of Local Government

Now it’s
Serious!

Remember the Michigan legislation granting their governor sole power to declare that local town and school boards are in fiscal crisis and he could then unilaterally dismiss locally elected officials and have the state – or, more likely, a corporation under contract with the state - take over administration and control of the local government?
Well guess what, Gov. Walker Inc. has the largest law firm in the state busy putting together just such a proposal right now.
In other words folks: You could wake up one morning to find that your town government has been abolished and replaced by Halliburton and your local police department has been sacked and will from now on be run by Xe (formerly known as Blackwater – yes, that Blackwater; the very same corporation of mercenaries responsible for atrocities in Iraq).
The next day you might learn your school board has been booted out the door and a private-for-profit corporate school put together by a group of Wall Street hedge fund crooks is now running little Suzie’s kindergarten.

 So check out the scam…
First, the Republicans gut state support for things like schools and town roads and infrastructure, dumping unreasonable costs on top of local government who are then limited by law in their ability to raise taxes.
Next, debt builds and now there is a financial crisis which then permits- maybe even mandate - the governor to liquidate the local governing body and turn it over to corporate management.
The Michigan law did not even prevent corporations from charging more than the abolished local government.
(Where the hell are the Tea Party folks on this? If they can wrench themselves away from the Obama birth certificate craziness they might discover this true threat to the nation.)
For all of those who don’t like use of the “f-word” (fascism) to describe what is evolving in this state, guess what?
            This is fascism!
Ed Garvey, of FightingBob.com broke the news to the state this morning on the 8 a.m. Joy Cardin show, on Wisconsin Public Radio.
Folks, this is serious and if it is not stopped we are at the beginning of a rapid slide that will lead to corporate dominated totalitarian government. The same thing is being proposed in other states. I urge you to read Garvey’s article below and the accompanying links.
Then read “Today’s Page From History”. After reading that if you think it is all just coincidence then, as an old friend used to say, “you’re not paying attention”.
I know it is hard and frightening to take this in, but we have to open our eyes and stand with courage and clarity against this assault on our freedom and sovereignty, otherwise our children will live in a very different, far more brutal America.

In solidarity,
Mark L. Taylor

They have plans! Do they ever!
By Ed Garvey

Remember when we chuckled at the Michigan Governor Snyder, who wanted the Michigan legislature to approve his plan to permit him to declare "Financial Martial Law" in cities and other governmental bodies having tough economic times? The law would permit the governor to replace city councils, school boards and other governmental positions. Eminent domain on steroids. I laughed and suggested a bumper sticker in the U.P. of, "Your Governor is worse than ours!"
Well, that was then, now we know another one of Walker's little secrets. We have discovered that Wisconsin's governor has the same twisted idea for Wisconsin as Michigan's governor does of his state. The state would be allowed to take over local governments if financial management standards are not met. Who decides? The governor or a newly elected uber comptroller. (I am not making this up.) The secret plan is being prepared by the state's largest law firm, Foley & Lardner, for the Greater Milwaukee Committee, the Bradley Foundation, the governor, and key legislators. There is speculation that Alberta Darling is the Walker point person on this nutty scheme, but no need to speculate: call Senator Darling's office and ask!
This drastic measure will be "fast-tracked" by the Walkerites unless we slow down the train--again! Clearly Walker wants it passed before any recall elections are held. We must get involved in stopping this absurd attack on democracy and local government.
A fancy brochure is almost ready for distribution…
